Dr Carole Bourne-Taylor (Tutor in French at Brasenose College, Oxford) who
wrote the introduction to Three Plays and Dramatic Critic. Selected Reviews (1922-1939) by CM is currently writing a monograph on Charles Morgan. Stay tuned; and meanwhile see her article on CM at Brasenose here (page 120) The National Portrait Gallery has, as its only photograph of Hilda Morgan, a photograph of her and CM taken by a most unusual photographer in the 1950s. We now have permission to use this. Take look in our Gallery.
Peter Holland, in his introduction to the CM Collected Poems, reminded us that Derek Traversi, the Shakespeare scholar and literary critic, had written an essay on CM. This does not appear to be available on the Web, but book and magazine deal I.D. Edrich in East London has a copy of Colosseum vol. 11 (1936) with the article on sale at £17.50. See the website mention here.
There was, in this spot, a post on the film of The Fountain; but as you can see below, it acted as a spampot attracting hundreds of spamflies, mostly from Indonesia. So I will leave it here to attract all the fake comments which might otherwise infest the rest of the site.
I have just heard from Scarthin Books in Matlock, Derbyshire, that they still have copies of Peter Holland's handsome edition of CM's Collected Poems. The price is £12 and they offer free postage to anyone who says they have seen it advertised on this website. Well worth getting!
There is some very good news to report: Oberon Books have just brought out two volumes of Morgan texts.
1) Charles Morgan, Three Plays, ISBN: 9781849431828; £15.99 2) Dramatic Critic: Selected Reviews (1922-1939), ISBN: 9781849431354; £18.99 Both are excellent to have. Some readers may remember that on the old website we reviewed the Jermyn St Theatre's production of The River Line; it is hoped that the new edition of Morgan's three plays will stimulate others to produce them. As for the volume of reviews, it is a treasure for both Morgan fans and for all those interested in theatre between the wars. We will be publishing more extensive reviews of both volumes here very soon. This is the beginning of the new Charles Morgan website: the changes were forced by Dotster's move to a new system. I will try to make it at least as useful and pleasant as the old site, but it may take a little while, as this is not something I'm expert at. In any case, welcome (back) -- wel will continue to celebrate CM, his work and his memory.
